Yesterday I went to my OB/GYN, if you are a guy you want to stop now, for my annual appointment and received some surprising news. First, she tells me I have a tilted uterus but says it’s normal. What the hell is that!! She just threw it out there and moved on. No doctor has told me this before. So here I am thinking my uterus is all straight and happy and its leaning back like its auditioning for a Fat Joe video. Who knew!! I wasn’t totally sure what that meant for me in the long term but before I could ask question she dropped something else on me.
I sort of knew something was up because she stayed up there, poking and prodding, longer than usual. You know, doing the silent Dr. “umm…umm”. Finally she said she felt a small lump or a lymph node in my pelvic area. She said I was probably fine but wanted me to come back in three weeks to check it again. My heart is now beating fast. I really hate the doctor standard “it’s probably nothing”. I would much rather a “Girl you r ass better start praying” or something like that. Anyway, first my uterus is in desperate need of a V8 and now a small lump! It was not my day! She gave me the option of coming back for another pelvic exam or ultrasound. I chose the ultrasound, just tell me for certain what it is don’t go digging for gold again. Needless to say I left the doctor’s office feeling a little apprehensive. I’m not freaking out or hysterical but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned at all. I’ll just wait out the three weeks to find out if there is any cause to be hysterical.
When I got to work I finally had time to research my tilted uterus. I found out I’m in that rare 20% of women that it happens to. Though in some cases it may have some effect on fertility, for the most part I will probably be fine. Here’s more info if you want it. www.americanpregnancy.org/womenshealth/tippeduterus.html
