As President Obama’s second inauguration approached, I decided I wanted to host a small viewing party and invite a few of our friends. Four years ago my plans to actually attend the inauguration fell through. Then, we decided we’d head to Charlotte and watch with friends. However, it snowed the night before and since we live in the south, the roads aren’t the best when it snows. So, Hubby and I snuggled on the our couch and watched history. This go round I wanted to do something that would engage RJ and our god-daughter in the days activities. I’m sure they didn’t really understand what they were watching and I’m not sure they will remember, but I tried. Sunday, I went out to Party City and picked up a few decorations and balloons. Hubby was shocked when I walked in the house with red, white and blue balloons, stars and flags confetti and mini flags.
I kept the menu small and simple: meatballs, wingettes, seafood salad and fruit salad. It was a great day spent with my family and friends. Hopefully the kids will remember something about the day, even if it’s just how much they LOVED waving their flags.
