5 Seconds of Fame and Decking the Halls

We had a great Thanksgiving in Atlanta area with my family.  My cousin’s husband smoked the turkey and forgot about it. Sooooo thankfully, we had two Honeybaked hams.  It was the first time I can remember a Thanksgiving where I didn’t eat turkey.  Anyway, the women in my family LOVE to shop and we were out Thanksgiving night shopping until we dropped.  We hit the streets again Friday with the men and kids.  And RJ and I made the news for about 5secs…

We returned home Saturday afternoon and I was ready to finish preparing the house for Christmas.  With the exception of our tree, I’d put up most of the indoor decorations before we left.  This year,  I finally took the time to make an Advent calendar…

and bought an Advent wreath…

We also introduced RJ  to the Ef on the Shelf book Saturday night and with that, we were ready to start off Advent season Sunday morning. *By the way, RJ decided he wanted to name his elf, Elf, isn’t my child creative o_O*

This year, I decided I wanted a live tree.  I can only remember having a live tree once while growing up.  Hubby and I bought a nice artificial tree several years ago and have been using it ever since.  I was prepared to just go to one of the many pop-up Christmas tree stands around town for our first live tree.  Then, I a couple of friends on FB posted pictures from Christmas tree farms and I knew that was where I wanted to go.   We made the trek out to the country to a tree farm and this happened….

Cutting Down the Tree

From the time he first began to cut down the tree on the farm, to the time he had to cut a little more off once we got it home, Hubby may have cursed me my idea a few times!  However, we got it home and our 8 foot beauty looks great in our living room.

Have you decked your halls already? What about Elf on the Shelf, yay or nay? Have you ever chopped down your own Christmas tree?

Ha! I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go back to our artificial tree. I loved not having to assemble and fluff branches.
